Fritiof - Fritiof shared that he attended a Leadership day for Student Council and also that he had been ill the prior week. He was excited to share that the SHS Chess team won Nationals in the unrated division. He is starting tennis. He also has been practicing playing guitar accompanying fellow classmate, vocalist Anna Mohr and they will be performing at Open Mic night at Beans and/or Air Play. Thanks Fritiof.
Program - Tom Jensen introduced Jake Lipka, Tennis Pro at Sterling Park district. Jake provided us with a written history of the Westwood Racquet facilities since 1971. Very interesting to see the progression and changes that have occurred. Jake has introduced many new programs to Westwood, such as partnering with the Midwest Youth Tennis Association, learning and tournament opportunities for 10 & under youth, cardio tennis, adult drills, mixed doubles on Sundays from 1 - 3, youth single day tournaments. Court #1 is now a smart court which allows for players to review their technique and data. Free youth tennis is offered in the summer for ages 4 - 9. They are also redoing the 9 outdoor courts. Jake indicated that Pickleball is a fast growing game across the country and in our community as well. Jake did a great job informing us of the many opportunities Westwood has to offer for tennis and pickleball. Thanks Jake and Tom.
