 Last Tuesday's Program

Our speaker was Vitaliy Bezrodnoy who works with the Rotary's Children's Fund and Golden Gates Youth Exchange Program.  He gave an impassioned talk about the value young people receive from visiting other countries, especially the United States.  He noted that the name "Golden Gate" didn't refer to the bridge in San Francisco, but the Russian word for "heart to heart."  His 27 minute talk featured photos of young people, choirs, dancers, and world-wide scenes and covered just about every aspect of youth services imaginable!

Polio Re-surges During Pandemic

Past President John Gvozdjak sent out an article from the “Wall Street  Journal” by Saeed Shah and Betsy McKay that says, “After decades of work, polio had been wiped out almost everywhere in the world.  All that was left were pocket in Afghanistan and Pakistan.”  However, because of Covid-19, with its mutated forms, evidences of polio have greatly expanded in Pakistan.  The article continues: “Some Pakistani communities have found they have a new leverage when vaccinators come calling.  Teams in Pakistan have received demands for electricity, roads, and schools, as well as other health services before residents would agree to vaccinations.”  This is a serious setback for Rotary’s world-wide effort to eradicate polio.

The farmer's son was returning from the market with the crate of chicken's his father had entrusted to him, when all of a sudden the box fell and broke open.

Chickens scurried off in different directions, but the determined boy walked all over the neighborhood scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired crate.

Hoping he had found them all, the boy reluctantly returned home, expecting the worst.

"Pa, the chickens got loose," the boy confessed sadly, "but I managed to find all twelve of them."

"Well, you did real good, son," the farmer beamed. "You left with seven.”
